Goonhilly SDA capabilities align with latest UK Government requirements
The latest UK Cross-Government Space Domain Awareness requirements highlight a clear alignment between Goonhilly's RF-based capabilities and the UK's space and national security needs

This week saw the publication of the third
UK Cross-Government Space Domain Awareness (SDA) requirements document.
We welcome this high-level guidance, which outlines the UK Government’s operational vision for a multi-faceted, interconnected, civil/military SDA system-of-systems.
This latest iteration reinforces the strong alignment between Goonhilly's sovereign radio-frequency (RF)-based SDA capabilities and the UK's future requirements, including:
- Detecting, tracking, and characterising objects in GEO orbits, cislunar space, and beyond.
- Identifying, resolving, and independently tracking closely spaced objects in all these areas.
- Detecting changes in the behaviour of space objects to support event indications and warnings.
- Monitoring the cyber and electromagnetic activity of space objects of interest.
- Supporting the Government’s planetary defence mission.
Our RF-based SDA capabilities also offer the significant advantage of all-weather operations and day/night coverage, making them a powerful complement to optical sensing technologies within a resilient and diverse SDA architecture.
As we continue to develop our in-house SDA systems, we look forward to collaborating with partners across government, academia, and industry, to help the UK to secure its interests in, from, and through space.
